In this section, you can also submit an enquiry or tell us about an issue with the platform using the simple contact form on the right hand side of the page.
In the footer there is also an option to ‘Report a Problem’ using the pop-up modal.
Finally, you can access our terms and conditions and privacy policy by clicking on the links at the base of the page.
Working Through Modules Tutorial
My New Venture is made up of a series of modules, which cover different business disciplines, and topics that sit within them focussing on more specific elements of that discipline.
To start a module, click on the green ‘Start Module’ button. Once you start the module the button will change to ‘continue’. If a new module isn’t available yet but coming soon, you can look at a preview of the module by clicking on the blue ‘preview’ button.
At the top of the screen you will see the name and number of the module along with a progress bar of how far along you are.
Below this are further details on the module, including the number of topics available, the release date, the approximate duration of the module and a download of any resources you might want to use or refer to while competing the module. These can be downloaded by simply clicking on the link.
On the right hand side is a module overview video to view before starting each module.
Below this is a list of the topics that are present in the module. To view a topic for the first time, click on the green ‘view topic’ button. To continue a topic you are already in progress with, click on the green ‘continue button’. Once a topic has been completed, it will turn blue to signify completion, however you can review the content at any stage by clicking on the ‘review’ link.
When you have completed a module a certificate of completion will be generated on screen to confirm this. To get a PDF copy for your files, click on the green ‘download’ button.
Click on the ‘back to dashboard’ link to get back to the module listing and begin the next module.
Working Through Topics Tutorial
Within each module is a series of topics, which contain information on specific areas of business activity.
To view a topic for the first time, click on the green ‘view topic’ button. To continue a topic you are already in progress with, click on the green ‘continue button’. Once a topic has been completed, it will turn purple to signify completion, however you can review the content at any stage by clicking on the ‘review’ link.
At the top of screen you will see the name of the module and topic number. Below this is the name of the topic and a bar visually showing the progress you have made. You also have a link to go back to the module homepage at any time.
Topics work by having a series of slides – the number of which are shown above the content – so you know how may you will be working through. Next to this is a link to download any topic specific resources – you may have these already if you have downloaded the full module resource zip file – as well as an audio version. This is an mp4 file which you can listen to on the move if that is more convenient for you in some circumstances.
Topics are comprised of text content, videos, question fields and images.
Once you have worked through a slide, click on the green ‘next’ button and you will move to the next slide.
Once a topic has been completed you will see a screen notifying you that you have successfully concluded the topic and give you the option to move straight on to the next or view some useful reading relevant to that subject.
Content FAQs
Who has written the content?
The information on the pages has been written either by content researchers from the My New Venture team or by specialists in that field. We have gathered lots of information from business owners which forms the general narrative but which is edited by our internal content writers. The industry specific content is taken from those specialists who have the necessary experience, expertise and credibility to provide the information which has been lightly adapted by our team to fit My New Venture tone of voice.
Is the information in each section correct?
There are two types of information on the platform – subjective and factual. Where we have subjective information, such as “how hard is running a business” or “how much money will you need to set up your venture”, there is obviously no right or wrong answer and therefore is available to you to give a range of views and form an educate opinion of how it practically relates to your situation. Where we have factual information such as “How is a VAT return completed” and “Registering as a Limited Company”, there is a correct way of doing it and therefore the information can be considered reliable and factually correct. When any information is out of date, it will be removed or replaced immediately.
Who are the people in the videos?
The individuals that we film are all genuine business people who either run their own small business or work for a small or medium enterprise. The reason that we will use employees as well as business owners is that in some instances we require specialist knowledge in certain areas – for example law and accounting – which owners may not necessarily have. They are not paid actors or reading from a script which hasn’t been compiled in the most part by themselves.
I have found some content which I don’t think is right, what should I do?
We do our level best to have a platform that is free from errors, however there are occasions where we fall short. Our own internal quality assurance is normally enough to catch these before published but in the event that we have missed something, please let us know. This might be a typo or a query on some information which we consider factual – in either case please send us a message using the Support Contact Form or by emailing support@mynewventure.com
In the event that there is subjective information, advice or guidance which you do not agree with, we will look at this and how we can potentially make it clearer or offer a counter idea to balance the views out. Again please send us a message using the Support Contact Form or by emailing support@mynewventure.com
Is the information on the platform just for the UK or UK and Ireland?
The majority of the information will apply to the UK and Ireland as far as the general business information, advice and guidance goes. There will inevitably be elements of legal and financial nature which are different depending on each of these jurisdictions though. If you are accessing from Ireland, the platform is only entirely relevant for the UK and UK law.
How often is the content updated?
Content is being added every week, and where we feel content is out of date or new information supersedes it, it will be removed or amended as soon as we are aware.
How will the content be affected by Brexit?
The platform is applicable to the legal jurisdiction of the United Kingdom. Once the UK has left the European Union, any changes to business practice will be reflected in the content as soon as it becomes clear what these changes are.
